Well the time has finally come when this month sees our Watoto Team head off (6th – 24th August) to Uganda to build the Watoto house. It has thus far been an exciting journey together since the concept was adopted by our church in February 2007! 

Recent fundraising efforts have been so helpful – not only to the team and to the children in Uganda, but in building our own faith as we have seen God at work in our lives and through the hearts of others!

We will all look forward to the team sharing upon their return, but in the meantime a very special thank you must go to all of you who have very kindly contributed to this project in so many ways.

In addition to our fundraising efforts, the team have undergone a cultural training session over afternoon tea (hosted by our dear friend Samille), had a prayer sessions, have been meeting regularly for fellowship, and doing all the other necessary preparation including medicals, filling out forms, and packing!

Total fundraising efforts achieved $5,145.65, which was equally shared between the 5 Cairns team members, with some members in a position to use their share of the funds to purchase items to take over for the children. These funds resulted from the 2nd hand clothing sale, 5 afternoon teas, an Asian food cook up (thanks again Yetwan!), personal donations including MIG, and the Edge Hill School Free Dress day.  

Donations and items purchased for the children have included pyjamas, materials, tournequets, educational charts, books, rulers, pens, rubbers and books.

As we send the team off with our blessings – Penny Grummitt, Peter Jetson, Margaret Chandler, Tim & Shell Hickin, and Rob Tyrrell (team leader) together with his crew of 10 from Beachside Christian Church, please continue to support them in prayer – pending their safe return and in anticipation of God being able to use them in ways beyond their expectations!
